The Challenge

Provide a 10,000-litre steel bunded diesel storage tank and refuelling system to provide a static fuelling station for the operation of an 82-ton tamping machine, used by Nexus Tyne and Wear across the Metro system to ensure track geometry levels and alignment are maintained in accordance with UK rail industry standards.

 

While a standard 10,000-litre steel bunded tank was suitable for this application, additional bespoke re-fuelling equipment was necessary to meet the customer’s requirements.

Access to the installation site was also narrow and had a height clearance of 3.0 metres, which would be too low for conventional delivery on a standard rigid lorry.

The Solution

Fuel Storage Equipment UK supplied a 10,000-litre fuel storage tank and re-fuelling system which consisted of a Puisi 70 lpm fuel pump, 10m hose reel, OLE tank contents gauge & Hytek bund/high-level alarms.

 

Delivery to the site was a challenge, but this was resolved by using a low-loader to reduce the overall height of the vehicle and load, and delivery and installation were carried out without a hitch.
